In this terrible World

There is a quote I saw on IG that led me to what this blog post is about:

In a world where you can be anything, be kind.

It is very simple you would think, to be kind. It’s not.

Early this week, a guy cut me off on the roundabout even though I had right of way (I know we don’t follow rules anyway) and I told the husband that he is probably tired of living in this country.

Being Kenyan (and outside of the ruling class) is a tough existence and because we are exceedingly passive, instead of being angry at the people who make it difficult to live in this otherwise beautiful place, we take it out on each other.

And if you think about it, that’s how for the most part we react, with unkindness.

I’m not here to extol the virtues of turning the other cheek nor will I conflate genuine kindness with “kill them with kindness” as a mantra. Truly, I don’t even know what I’m trying to say, I just wish we were all kinder.
